The 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Festival officially opened with a ceremony at the Historic Train Depot, across from the Whitewater Municiapl Building, on Sunday morning, July 1, at 11:30 AM. Following an open-air ecumenical service at the Cravath Lakefront, the Soo Line 1003 steam engine pulled into town at 11:30 AM to mark the official beginning of the festival events. The depot was decked in patriotic bunting and speakers were arranged on the dias: State Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson, State Representative Kim Hixson (43rd District), State Representative Steve Nass (31st District), and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Interim Chancellor Dick Telfer. Home-Coming King and Queen Fred Kraege and Marilyn Kienbaum were also on hand, in their festival finery, to lend a regal air to the event. After the speakers were finished, a ribbon-cutting took place.
