Tuesday, July 3 History Day
  • Historic Trolley Tour; 45-minute tour led by historian Carol Cartwright, starting at the Whitewater Municipal Building; two consecutive tours, with the first starting at 11 AM
  • Oak Grove Cemetery Tour, 1 - 4 PM; featuring Regimental Volunteer Band of WI from 1 to 2:30 PM; Oak Grove Cemetery on East Main Street; parking on the street and golf carts will be available for those unable to walk longer distances
  • Lemke Farms Horse-drawn carriage rides, Oak Grove Cemetery, 1 to 4 PM
  • Lemke Tractor-drawn trolley tours on a continuous loop from Oak Grove to the American Legion, and back.
  • Veterans Salute at the American Legion; 1 - 4 PM; lunch at 1; welcome and speakers Stefan Koehler and Evan Wynn at 1:30; Veterans share memorabilia at 2:15; Regimental Volunteer Band of WI to play 3 - 4 PM; 292 S. Milwaukee Street
  • Crossman Gallery exhibit: "Coming Home to Whitewater: Looking back, going foreward" 1 - 8 PM; Greenhill Center of the Arts; Reception at 5:30 PM.
  • Train Depot Museum open: 1 - 4 PM; across from Whitewater Municipal Building
  • Log Cabin Rededication; UW-W campus; 4:30 PM
  • Crossman Gallery Reception; UW-W; Greenhill Center of the Arts; 5:30 PM
  • Sale of the Century; participating Whitewater Merchants; 5:20 - 7:00 PM
  • Teen Dance at the Armory: 7 - 9:30 PM; cost: $5; DJ for dancing; snacks and fun 4th stuff available to purchase; interested students will be walked to the Cravath Lakefront Park afterwards for the fireworks
  • 4th of July Festival activities:
    • evening only: 5 PM to midnight
    • carnival will be open 5 PM - midnight
    • Home-Coming fireworks: 10:00 PM


Wednesday, July 4 Grand Finale and Happy 4th of July!!
  • The great and glorious July 4th parade! 10 AM Start. This year's theme: Centennial Home-Coming. The parade meets at Lincoln School at 9:30 and follows the route north on Prince, east on Main Street, and then south-westish on Whitewater Street to end up at Cravath Lakefront Park. This year's Grand Marshall: Dr. Lee Allenstein! Also appearing will be 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming King and Queen Fred C. Kraege and Marilyn Kienbaum.
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides, Whitewater Municipal Building across from Cravath Lakefront Park, noon - 6 PM
  • Whitewater's 170th Birthday celebration and 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Closing Ceremonies; 5:30 PM; Whitewater Municipal Building. Celebrate 170 years of settlement with a spectacular 59" long cake as we celebrate the 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming; speeches and "open mic" for those who wish to share their thoughts on Whitewater.
  • Train Depot Museum open: 10 AM to 4 PM
  • July 4th Festival activities:

Special events: The 2007 Whitewater Team has been collaborating with many groups and organizations to bring the following special events to the 2007 Home-Coming:

  • Welcome Center at the Whitewater Municipal Building. Visit our air-conditioned, comfortable meeting place where you can enjoy refreshments, view exhibits, purchase Home-Coming items and gifts, find out about the days' events, and contribute your Whitewater memory to the storysite.

  • Historic Trolley Tours. 45-minute Historic tours of Whitewater, led by historian Carol Cartwright, are scheduled for Sunday, July 1, at 11 AM and 7 PM, as well as Tuesday, July 3, at 11 AM. Tours will leave from Whitewater Municipal Building.
  • "Coming Home to Whitewater: Looking Back, Going Forward" at the Crossman Art Gallery; June 29 – July 3. Contact Ellen Penwell at 262-203-6529. For details, go to http://blogs.uww.edu/dept/crossman/
  • Summer Playhouse production of the “Music Man” June 29 and 30; 7 PM at Whitewater High School; free shuttle to the fireworks after the show. Contact Anne and Lane Kuske at 262-472-8221.
  • Old-Fashioned 4th at the Bassett House Sunday, July 1, featuring the 1st Brigade Band. Contact Kathy Schumacher at 262-473-3351.
  • Citywide Lawn, Garden & Yard Decorating Contest.
  • Portraits of Benjamin McCready, 1982 – 2007; First Citizens State Bank. Opening reception Monday, July 2 from 1 – 3 PM. Exhibit will run through August 31.
  • Citywide scavenger hunt and "Sale of the Century" from 5:20 to 7 PM, Tuesday, July 3.
  • “Anything Whitewater” show at D3, the gallery at the Double Dip Deli, sponsored by the Whitewater Arts Alliance; month of July. Contact Marilyn Fuerstenberg at 262-472-5369.
  • Oak Grove Cemetery Tour with the Whitewater Historical Society Tuesday, July 3, from 1- 4 PM. Regimental Volunteer Band of Wisconsin to play from 1 to 2:30. Costumed presenters bring the stories to life. Contact Ellen Penwell at 262-203-6529.

Sunday, July 1 Grand Opening

  • 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Opening Ceremony; Train Depot; speeches and ribbon cutting
  • The 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Festival is delighted to announce a special appearance by the historic SOO LINE 1003 Steam Locomotive to their centennial celebration. Visitors to the festival will be able to view the engine and a caboose at Cravath Lakefront Park on Saturday evening, June 30, after 6 PM and tour the caboose Sunday, July 1, from noon until 5 PM. Sunday is the Grand Opening of the 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Festival, with Opening Ceremonies slated to begin at 11:30 AM at the Historic Train Depot.
  • Crossman Gallery exhibit: "Coming Home to Whitewater: Looking back, going foreward" 1 - 5 PM; Greenhill Center of the Arts; UW-W
  • Home-Coming Fun Run/Walk: noon from the Historic Train Depot to Starin Park, a one mile plus trip that follows much of the route of the 1907 hHome-Coming parade!
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides, Starin Park, noon to 5 PM
  • Tractor-drawn trolley continuous shuttle from Welcome Center (Whitewater Municipal Building) to Starin Park and back again, with a stop at the Bassett House along the way.
  • College High reunion: noon, Coulthart Pavilion, UW-W
  • Train Depot Museum open: noon - 5 PM

  • Jason the Juggler at Starin Park; 1 - 4 PM
  • Old-timers Baseball Game at Starin Park; 2:30 - 5:00 PM; see some of your favorite Whitewater High School alums play the Greenbush Dead Citys using original circa 1860 rules and no equipment!!
  • UW-W Campus Tours hosted by Dick Haney, Mark Dorn, and Warhawk Ambassadors; tours begin at Greenhill Center for the Arts Atrium; 2 - 4 PM
  • Bassett House Old-Fashioned 4th; Ice-Cream Social and lemonade stand: 2 - 6 PM; 1st Brigade Band: 4 - 5:30 PM
  • Festival Dinner; UW-W; 6 PM. Social hour followed by summer salad buffet dinner and dancing. $20 per person. Greenhill Center of the Arts. RSVP by June 25 to wwhomecoming@uww.edu or 262-472-1918.

  • Children's activities and games at Cravath Lakefront Park, noon - 6 PM
  • Buggy Whip Farms Petting Zoo! Includes llama, mini donkey, sheep, goats, turkey, geese, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and baby animals: lambs, goats, bunnies, etc.; noon - 4 PM. Look for the Buggy Whip Farms "Wild, Wild West" float in the July 4th parade this year... featuring many of these animals in a decorated wild west village.
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides, Cravath Lakefront Park, noon - 6 PM
  • Train Depot Museum open: 1 - 4 PM
  • Crossman Gallery exhibit: "Coming Home to Whitewater: Looking back, going foreward" 1 - 5 PM; Greenhill Center of the Arts, UW-W
  • Ben McCready portrait exhibit at the First Citizens State Bank: Reception 1 - 3 PM. Refreshments will be served. Sixteen portraits will be on display, including portraits of President Ronald Reagan, President Gerald Ford, President Jimmy Carter, Robert Redford, Gene Lee/Cousin Otto and Edward Curtis.
  • Local historian and author Fred Kraege and former resident and Pratt Family member Lester Peich to speak at the Welcome Center at the Whitewater Municipal Building: 3 PM
  • Stuart Stotts; singer and storyteller; 3 - 4 PM
  • Cravath Cup 4 - 5 PM. Bring your homemade boat - materials allowed are duct tape, plastic milk jugs, and cardboard - and put it to the test! Prizes for top three finishers and "The Wonder that Went Down Under." Sponsored by the United Way. No fee to enter! For more information: 920-563-8880.
  • Frederic Winters, hypnotist, 5 - 6 PM
  • Members of the Badger and Warhawk Bands: 6 - 7 PM; look for Bucky Badger and Willie Warhawk!!
