A & PThis is a featured page

The A & P (Atlantic and Pacific) foodstore was last located on the southwest corner of Center and Fourth Streets, where the Worldwide Headquarters of Toppers Pizza is now.

Remembrances:

Anonymous: The A&P I remember most was on Main Street where Reflections from the Past is today. We came to town of Friday nights and if we were lucky got a parking place right in front. I remember a lady named Phyliss who worked there and the smell of the fresh ground coffee. The A&P later moved to the East Side, where Coburn Company is located. (June 7, 2007)

I remember two locations of the A&P, one on the east side and one near downtown. We lived on the east side (Newcomb St) when I was in 2nd and 3rd grade and often shopped there. My dad became acquainted with the manager and my family even ate dinner at his house once. My brother and I collected glass pop bottles and turned them in to the A&P. My memory of that A&P was that it was kind of dark and dingy. We also begged my dad to give us his spare change so we could visit the gumball machines. One time we had a whole bag of pennies and went crazy at the candy machine getting prizes and gum. I got a few mini troll dolls there.

Just wanted to add this business which was run by Whitewater resident Paul Jhona. Also, to this day, I still think the Red Hen Restaurant had the best fried chicken that I have ever eaten!
