Benners Grocery On Janesville St.This is a featured page

From a Register article provided by Eddie Benner

On February 27, 1974 Ed and Ruth Benner closed a small grocery store, Benners Market, that had been open since April 1, 1960. It was located in the building currently occupied by the Five Points Beauty Shop and was the last of the ma and pa grocery stores in the city since Hackett's grocery had closed in 1973. The reason for closing was the inability to compete with the larger stores in purchasing power. Ed went to work across the street at Foodville. May 1, 2007

I remember Benners....cute little grocery shop....I also remember at one time they had a little ferris wheel set up outside. I'm not sure if it was for a special event...or if they just had it there for the children...I know my brother had a few rides on it....maybe my sister too....I'll have to ask her.... I know I didn't ride on it...because I didn't like to be up high...I laugh now...because it was just a very small ferris wheel.....fun to remember tho...
