Beverly was born in Racine, WI and moved to Whitewater in 1947, after she graduated from high school. She came to Whitewater to study and graduated with a math major/physics minor. Back in high school she was prevented from taking a math class she wanted to because she was a girl. So when she was in line to Register at the State Teacher's College and they asked her what her major would be, she said "math!" She graduated in 1950 and later got her masters degree in education from Whitewater as well.

She met her husband Neil Ferguson, who was studying as well. Beverly had three daughters: Pamela, Leslie, and Valerie, each married with two children. Two later went to Whitewater for college.

Beverly was a lifeguard at Trippe Lake when Hawthorne Mellody was still there - she watched over kids who later because her students at Marshall Junior High. Beverly taught "mini courses" between semesters like "You are what you eat," "synchronized swimming," and "guitar." She took the latter class over when another teacher moved away - she didn't know how to play! Luckily, one of the kids in the class (Tommy Tucker) did, and essentially led the class.

Beverly always found the people of Whitewater very warm and welcoming.

In 1970, after Old Main burned down, Beverly wrote a letter to the editor at the Whitewater Register; it was published on February 19, 1970.
