John S. Partridge, considered a man of all trades, was engaged in many of the city's early industries. Being in the mercantile business, when the railroad arrived Partridge helped erect "the Big Warehouse" for grain and produce. In 1857, he closed out these operations and joined Winchester in his factory. He held many positions of trust in the city and departed this life in 1892. (Whitewater, Fred G. Kraege)
