I had the opportunity to discover and shop at Art Lein's store, while attending WSU-W, now UW-W, during the period, 1965-1969. Though his store was not large, his selection and display of merchandise, tested my will power to remain within my budget. Later I learned that on certain Saturday's during football season, Art ocassionally chose to close the store in order to attend the game. After graduating, I was fortunate to develope a friendship with Art and his wife Mary that exists today. He continues to live in Whitewater, in the same home he was born in on Fremont Street and is one of the town's experts on local sports history. In the years since, whenever I have returned to Whitewater, I still "see" the marquee, "Art Lein's Menswear" but more importantly visit with a gentleman and friend.
