In 1954 Margaret moved to Whitewater with three of her four children from Milwaukee, when she accepted a split appointment position with the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. She taught kindergarten at the Campus School (K-8th) in the morning for 25 children, and in the afternoon taught Children's Literature to college students. In the 1970's, Margaret also opened the daycare on campus, now known as the Children's Center. Margaret is now the oldest living retiree from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. After she retired in 1975, she decided to stay in Whitewater so she wouldn't have to rebuild friends and activities, but mainly because she believes you must move forward in life, not backwards. You can never go back to what was.

Since she retired, Margaret worked at The Wishing Well Store, where she also designed the store fron windows as advertising for promotions at that time. Margaret also worked with the university in creating the CAPS Program, now known as the Horizon's Program - Professional Performing Arts for Schools. Margaret has put a lot of time and effort into this program and later was recognized as the Outstanding Volunteer. One summer along with Margie Triebold, they covered 1,000 miles to build participation in schools for its program, which at one time was the largest program of its kind in the Midwest. In Margaret's spare time, she also recorded for the Disabled Student Services for 10 years. She said she would record anything except Chemistry and Physics, because of the difficulty of explaining formulas in words for the blind. In the sense of what she was recording, she enjoyed this job because it was re-education for her.

One of Margaret's best memories was her traditional New Year's Eve Parties she had in her home. The most memorable one was the Millennium Celebration. That year for Time Square 2000 in New York at the turn of the century a completely redesigned ball made of Waterford Crystal was to drop.
