My family loved Max's Drug Store in the early 60's. He treated us like family. Once when I was 6 or 7 years old I became ill and threw up in the store. He and his staff knew I was having health problems and cheerfully cleaned up the mess. Every Christmas he had a big drawing and gave away a bunch of gifts. I think I won a doll one year. We were sad when Max retired. I always felt sorry for Max because he lived next door to the high school. Lots of kids used the front lawn of his house as the 'reefer corner' and dropped a ton of cigarette butts there. Does anyone know when Max passed away?

I looked forward to buying the latest Monster magazine at his store, and loved the fact it had a front and rear entrance.

I remember working at Max's in the early '50s. Ice cream cones were a nickel and seven cents for a cookie cone. A couple of well-to-do ladies use to come in for cones and had a fit to think they would have to pay that extra 2 cents for a cookie cone. If they knew the price of ice cream today they would flip out. Banana splits sold for 35 cents. A great hang out for students. A local business man would come in almost every morning for a bromo-seltzer. Wonder why? I also remember Marek Weber ( a great violinist who lived out on hy N) singing "Around the World in 80 Days" to me at the soda fountain.
