Press Release: The 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Team announces Home-Coming King and Queen The 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Team is delighted to announce that Marilyn Kienbaum and Fred G. Kraege have been named Home-Coming Queen and King for this year’s centennial event. The honorees will represent the Home-Coming Festival in this year’s Fourth of July parade, which itself has a “Centennial Home-Coming” theme, riding in a special car.

Marilyn Kienbaum is a life-long resident of the town and city of Whitewater. Currently serving as the Common Council President, Marilyn is an integral part of many boards and commissions, including the Plan and Architectural Review Board. In addition to these duties, Marilyn helps to run the Whitewater Food Pantry and writes regular columns on current Whitewater offerings and Whitewater history for local papers, the latter featured in the her “Discover Whitewater” articles. A tireless booster of Whitewater and advocate for all of its citizens, Marilyn was a natural choice for Home-Coming Queen. “We can think of no better person to grace DLK’s car and the event than someone who has done so much for our fair city. She is truly the “face of Whitewater,” and we are delighted that she will represent us in this summer’s parade,” said 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming co-chair Kristine Zaballos.

Fred G. Kraege was born in Lima Township but came to Whitewater early on, where he has stayed. An initial post-retirement project of cataloging the local cemeteries led to his extensive research into local families and businesses, articles on Whitewater history in the local papers, and, eventually, a book deal with Arcadia Press. Whitewater by Fred G. Kraege was published in 2006 and over 1,500 copies have been sold locally and with national retailers like Amazon.com. The book has just gone into a second printing in anticipation of this summer’s Home-Coming Festival. The 1907 Home-Coming Festival, a photo of which graces the cover of his book, has long been a special passion of Fred’s, who considers it perhaps the city’s finest hour. Fred is pleased to follow in the footsteps of Albert Salisbury, the Normal School President who brought the 1907 event to Whitewater, in representing the Home-Coming Festival this year. “I sense a great feeling of togetherness, civic pride, and unity of all will be an effort of fun. A community is one where everyone is part of it and sharing it for all,” said Fred about this year’s Home-Coming planning efforts. “Fred has been doggedly determined to honor the 1907 Home-Coming by celebrating its centennial,” said Zaballos. “Not only because he wants to tell the story of the past so that it not be forgotten, but because he fully understands what planning such an extensive, city-wide event does: it brings the people together. “

The 2007 Centennial Home-Coming Parade will take place on Wednesday, July 4, at 10:00 AM, gathering at Lincoln School on Prince Street, following Main Street downtown, and ending at the Cravath Lakefront Park, where the Minnieska Ski Show will perform afterwards. The Grand Marshall of the parade, whose name will be announced by the July 4th Committee, will ride in a special horse-drawn show carriage, provided by Lemke Farms in Milton.
