Philip Weinberg, Whitewater native and current resident of San Francisco, California, recently received a proclamation from Whitewater City Manager Kevin Brunner, honoring the celebration of his 100th birthday.

In return for the proclamation, Mr. Weinberg sent a handwritten letter of thanks, the text of which reads:

Dear Mr. Brunner;

Many thanks for the spendid "proclamation" you sent me on the occasion of my 100th birthday.

Although I was born in the city of Jefferson, I spent all of my youth in the beautiful city of Whitewater.

My parents came to Whitewater in about 1916 and lived there until they passed away. My father Bernard died when he was 59 years old, but, although a (unreadable) man, the then-editor of the Register wrote about him in the paper on April 30, 1936, that "... he had an ambition to justify his residence in this country and an appreciation far above that possessed by the native born for what it means to enjoy American citizenship." My parents were born in Russia.

I still keep in contact with children in Whitewater who are the children of some 9-year-old boys with whom I was friends.

Thank you again for this proclamation, which I treasure.

Sincerely, Philip Weinberg
