The Goal Post should be added to the restaurants, owned by the Jones Family (daughter Carol is still in Whitewater).... a great local hang-out for malts, burgers, and fries!

In the 70's there was a place called "The Deli"--it was next door to The Brass Rail. They sold all the things you would see at a deli, cold cuts, bagels, pickles...the family that owned it were very nice.

We are forgetting: Texaco, Salamone's Pizza, Howie's Hilltop (where else can you get take-out beer after midnight?), Culligan's, Majestic Cleaners, The Red Lantern, Sandy's which then became Hardee's, Sentry, Rexall Drugs, The Rathskeller, The Down-Under, Gus's Pizza (best pizza ever!), and The Record Shanty. Also, Brohahau was a clothing store, not a restaurant. Also, don't forget about the Armory. My mom said that they had New Year's Eve parties with live bands, Halloween parties and it was a roller skating rink for a while. I remember a clothing store where there was a vault for the dressing room. That is where my brother and I bought our Star Wars t-shirts. tlt

This small cafe that i speak of was located on the east side of town where Ricks Tavern was located and now is a small liquor store,, I am now 39 and my memory of this small cafe was back when me and my father (now deceased) since i was 12, would go there to eat,, a woman owned it,, I believe her name was Charmaine, making the name of the small cafe *Charmaine's* (spelling may not be correct) I would of been 8-11 yrs old at the time, the cafe itself only held but maybe 20 customers but was always busy, she had great food at a very reasonable price! Im hoping that some of the coffee clutchers here in town may remember this cafe, as my memory was that of when I was a child and not to clear. I also remember she sold alot of things that people would make and bring into her to sell for them, one being a big stuffed golden lion that my father purchased for me and i still own :) If there is anyone whom can remember this little cafe, plz give any other info I may be forgeting or just your output on the cafe, as I do believe in my heart that she is one that should not go unnoticed for her business here in Whitewater during the late 70's, thx :)

We need to remember Frank Mayer's Standard Oil station and Danny William's Cities Service station, also Don Brown's Sinclair station and Harley Baker's DX station by the bridge. Another old timer business was Featherston's Old Stone Mill, and can't forget Sauerberg's grocery store. Also, how about Max's Walgreen with a real soda fountain and the Red Hen restaurant and bar. How many other Whitewater retail landmarks can you remember.

One of my brother's many jobs ws at the A&P. He worked there throughout high school and thereafter until he went off to school. I know that he enjoyed working with the crew there. Dad used to buy A&P coffee beans that you ground in their machine at the store right in the isle. That isle had the best aroma and it was not common to have those machines in the coffee isle like it is today.

Not to long after we moved to Whitewater I came to know of The De Mott Coffee Cup--sometimes we got to eat there. A busy little downtown place where you could get your meals and a good cup of coffee. I remember the long booths with the high backs--seems to me they were a combination of red and yellow. As a child I was thrilled with the din and the people that came in and out regularily. I am sure that there are others that remember this place. Seems like there was a waitress by the name of Dolly--and that was an interesting name I had never heard before.
