The first settler that staked his claim of 60 acres in the spring of 1837. It included a group of Native American mounds on the western edge of the city, now a city park. Alone, he set up a crude 12-foot-by-12-foot log cabin. A number of the early settlers spent time with him in this "castle" as they prepared their new homes. (Fred Kraege, Whitewater)
