One of my favorite memories of Whitewater was in the early 1950's when on the east side on Wednesday evening someone offered free movies in the yard next to the old feed mill. They were pretty much attended just by residents of the east side. The boys being boys would search the railroad tracks for snakes with which they would try to scare the girls. The movies were full length. On the way home those crossing the bridge over the railroad tracks and past the gate to the cemetery were usually met with some strange sounds or people jumping out to scare them again. We also had lots of fun in the winter at the skating rink on the corner of and East North Streets. The large hill behind the grade school was also a great place to be in the winter.
