On Saturday, June 30th, at about 5 pm, an unusual sound was heard in Whitewater... the sound of a steam whistle, from an approaching train.
After the train rolled into the station, it was expertly "bunted" - cow catcher and all - by the Home-Coming Bunting Team, led by Russell Walton. Then the train left the station to overnight alongside Home Lumber, to return to kick off our Opening Ceremony on Sunday, July 1, at 11:30.

Did you see the train when it came to town?
Tell us about it
!
There was no charge to tour the caboose: the Soo Line 1003 was brought to you by the 2007 Whitewater Home-Coming Festival. Your purchase of
festival merchandise
defrays the cost of the Soo Line visit (we're still working on paying for it!). Thanks!

The Soo Line 1003 is a 1913 2-8-2 steam locomotive that has been preserved and is kept in the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford. It normally takes just 2 to 3 trips outside of the museum per year. For information about how the train came to Whitewater, read the
press release
of the Soo Line visit. Many thanks to everyone - Burt Mall and the Soo Line team, the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, Richard Ehrenberg (who had the big idea), those who donated - for making the visit possible.
