The movie theatre downtown was called the Strand.

Does anyone remember the years it was in operation?

Remembrances:

Anonymous: How could one forget walking up Main Street and the bending elms after watching "The Creature With The Atom Brain"...quite an adventure in the dark to make it home without being attacked!! (June 2007)

Anonymous: One of the first movies I saw at the Strand was "Arsenic and Old Lace". It was a scary walk home with the street lights casting trailing shadows from the tall elms along Main St.

Contributed by Nancy Lenz: One thing I remember about it was that they finally painted the ladies bathroom red because everybody was writing with lipstick or whatever on the wall. I remember the Easter Monday movies or cartoons. The window where you step up to to buy your tickets was on the right as you enter. (May, 2007)

What fun we all had at The Strand!! One movie favorite was when my sister Linda and I went to see Around the World in 80 Days...It was something like 4 hours long..we took snacks with us...it was a fun time...how many crushes did girls have on those cute fellas in the movies....One funny memory was waiting outside in the line for Hard Days Night...The Beatles..of course...the doors open....Paty and I made a bee line running to the front row....and oh my goodness...up came a man working there...he made us go back outside and WALK in....yes..we still made it to the front row...and we DID walk...altho quite fast......also....you could go to the movie in the afternoon and sit there through each show...that was great....so guess who was sitting there all afternoon and evening watching The Beatles........
