One of the most noted professors at the Whitewater Normal School was Warren S. Johnson, who worked in the Department of Natural Sciences. He was later dubbed the "Albert Einstein" of the Normal School. He invented the thermostat for regulating heat in a room and founded a company, Johnson Controls, which has become one of Wisconsin's most important industries. He also formed the nation's first fleet of postal trucks in Milwaukee, around 1905. (Whitewater, Fred G. Kraege).
