Remembrances:

Contributed by Beverly Ferguson: The old East Side School, which is now Washington School. The principal was Jerry Route, and he needed someone to teach half day (so he could teach Phy Ed and attend to his Principal's duties). I got the job, which worked well because my mother-in-law lived two blocks away, and I could leave my two younger girls with her, and my oldest could go to Kindergarten. I remember when I was teaching there, and forgetting to close the windows one day, and some birds flew in and made quite a mess of things. My father-in-law was the custodian and he had to clean it up! When I first came to Fairhaven one of the first people I met it turns out was in that classroom that day, and we had quite a laugh about that.

Morris Pratt Institute
Constructed in 1889 it was a school whose focus was communicating with the spirit world and other related topics. The school moved out in 1946.
